Discovery of the J.C. Ames Tugboat Shipwreck

A long-lost shipwreck, the J.C. Ames tugboat, sunk in 1923, was recently found in Lake Michigan near Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The discovery was made by a fisherman and announced by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The tugboat, built in 1881 for the lumber trade, was intentionally sunk and has now resurfaced after over 100 years.

Discovery of Ancient Canoes in Lake Mendota

Wisconsin historians discovered 11 ancient canoes in Lake Mendota, dating back to 2500 BC. The canoes provide insight into the Indigenous peoples' way of life and trading practices in the Great Lakes region.
